At Paradeco, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with a remarkable woman-owned coffee farm in Peru, dedicated to producing exceptional beans from the regions of La Coipa and Cajamarca. This collaboration reflects our commitment to supporting women in agriculture, promoting sustainable practices, and delivering high-quality coffee to our customers.
This was the very first coffee we purchased since it spoke to us upon hearing the story behind the bean. A women farmer produced this coffee named Maria Nieves Tantalean Fernandez. Maria is the president of a cooperative or a group of farmers called Asprocafe Alpes Andinos. This is a new cooperative making great strides in production in Peru. We continue to support women in the coffee industry who are often unrepresented and marginalized. One of Paradeco’s core values is to support women coffee farmers in various countries. A small majority of coffee farms in the world are owned by women. We find these farmers via intense research to support women directly.
Empowering Women in Coffee Farming
Our partner farm in Peru is a shining example of female entrepreneurship and leadership in the coffee industry. By supporting women-owned farms, we contribute to gender equality and economic empowerment within the coffee-growing communities. These women bring a unique perspective and dedication to their craft, ensuring that each coffee bean is cultivated with care and expertise.
La Coipa: A Hidden Gem
La Coipa is a hidden gem in the world of coffee. Nestled in the northern highlands of Peru, this region offers ideal growing conditions with its high altitudes, fertile volcanic soils, and temperate climate. Coffee from La Coipa is known for its bright acidity, medium body, and complex flavor profile, often featuring notes of citrus, red fruits, and floral undertones. The dedication of our partner farm ensures that these beans are harvested and processed with meticulous attention to detail.
Cajamarca: A Region of Excellence
Cajamarca is another esteemed coffee-growing region in Peru, celebrated for its rich flavors and high-quality beans. The region’s diverse microclimates and volcanic soils create the perfect environment for coffee cultivation. Cajamarca coffee is renowned for its bright acidity, smooth body, and delightful flavor notes, including chocolate, caramel, and nuts. Our partnership with the women-owned farm in this region highlights our commitment to sourcing the best beans while supporting sustainable and ethical farming practices.
Sustainable and Organic Farming Practices
Our partner farm in Peru is dedicated to sustainable and organic farming methods. These practices not only protect the environment but also ensure the health and well-being of the coffee-growing communities. Key practices include:
- Shade-Grown Coffee: The coffee is grown under the canopy of native trees, promoting biodiversity and preserving the natural ecosystem. This method also enhances the complexity and depth of the beans’ flavors.
- Organic Farming: The farm adheres to organic farming principles, avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. This commitment to organic methods results in a cleaner and more sustainable product.
- Hand-Picking: Coffee cherries are meticulously hand-picked at peak ripeness, ensuring that only the best beans are selected. This careful selection process is crucial for maintaining the high quality of the coffee.
Ethical Sourcing and Direct Trade
At Paradeco, we prioritize ethical sourcing and direct trade relationships. By partnering directly with this woman-owned farm, we ensure fair compensation and support for sustainable farming practices. This direct connection allows us to trace each batch of coffee back to its source, guaranteeing transparency and quality.
